Five Day Study & Practice Retreat – Buddhist Foundations of Mindfulness – The Big Picture
(Guest Course Bodhi College)
Mon 18 – Sat February 23, course no. 19.04

Akiñcano M. Weber and John Peacock, assistance Yuka Nakamura (English)
The Construction of Experience: This stand-alone retreat is the third in a series of four that examines Buddhist roots of contemporary mindfulness based applications; it focuses, from a Buddhist psychological perspective, on the frameworks known as the Aggregates (khandha) and Dependent Arising (paticca-samuppda). These teachings offer effective maps to navigate the complexity of what we call «experience». They also open up possibilities for insight into distress patterns running through our everyday lives and offer transformative tools dealing with the dynamics of «becoming» and «identification» as understood in Buddhist psychology.
Format: Mornings will be dedicated to silent, sustained practice. Afternoons and evenings will be opportunities for collective inquiry and personal practice.
Requirements: The retreat, while primarily aimed at people teaching Mindfulness Based Applications or in training to do so, is also open to people with experience of previous silent meditation retreats who are interested in the dialogue between the early teachings of mindfulness and contemporary applications.
Important: This is a stand-alone and donation-based module. While we encourage following all four retreats it is possible to attend only this one.
Bookings: Registration needs to be done via Bodhi College first. Please read here for a fuller description of the retreat: https:/bodhi-college.org/int/events/the-big-picture

Dhamma Everywhere: Eleven Day Awareness with Wisdom Retreat
Fri 10 – Tue May 21, course no. 19.12

Ven. Sayadaw U Tejaniya, assisted by Carol Wilson (English)
Throughout this retreat we will practice seeing the dhamma – the true nature of reality – which is revealed everywhere. When the mind is clouded by defilements or negative states, we are unable to recognize reality accurately because the quality of wisdom is dimmed. When the mind is unclouded, we can recognize the nature of cause and effect and this further strengthens wisdom. Nature is not «I», nor «us», nor «them», nor «others». Whatever happens in the present moment is nature. If we experience nature as it really is, the mind is free.
Sayadaw's teachings will be translated by Moushumi Ghosh (Ma Thet). Observance of the eight monastic precepts, which include abstaining from eating after noon, will be optional. Sayadaw generally teaches in group interviews rather than giving Dhamma talks.

Fees CHF 1035.- / EUR 941.-

Seven Day Secular Buddhist Retreat
Sat 21 – Sat September 28, course no. 19.22

Stephen and Martine Batchelor (English)
This retreat will seek to uncover what lies at the heart of the Buddha’s teaching and ask how such ideas might be interpreted and put into practice in today’s increasingly secular and interdependent world. Through readings of early Pali discourses, Stephen will consider how the words of Gotama still speak to us today, while Martine will focus on meditation practices as tools of awareness for daily living. This approach to the Dharma will draw inspiration from a variety of perspectives both classical and contemporary.
